Fiji Day will also be celebrated in Abu Dhabi, says Robin Nair, Fiji’s Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Mr Nair is hosting Fiji Day celebrations in Abu Dhabi for the Fijian community in the UAE on the evening of Friday, October 10.

“Some 200 people are expected from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and Delma, the main concentration centres of Fijians in the UAE,” he said.

He said the event would be a good time for them to meet and share ideas.

Mr Nair said the event would be organised in such a way that Fijians in attendance would have a real feeling of life in Fiji.

Most of these people had been away from home for quite a number of years and the Fiji Office at UAE would like them to have a real taste of Fijian life.

There would be traditional dances (meke), he said.

For food, Mr Nair said they would have Fijian foods: lovo done in the desert, kokoda/vasakera, chicken curry, goat pulau, beef chop suey, salads, puri and rice.

Mr Nair will be reading out the President’s Fiji Day Message.
