The Fiji Crop and Livestock Council (FCLC) have been developing an agenda that was presented to association representatives at a meeting at the Ministry of Agriculture in Suva.

Council executive chairman Simon Cole said a major push in the coming months would be in strengthening the associations and expanding the membership drive.

Mr Cole said the responsibility of the council was significant, that it represented about 30,000 farmers in ‘the non-sugar agricultural sector’.

“This is a huge and vital project to not only raise the profile of farmers, but to represent their needs to those agencies responsible. We are essentially advocates for the farmers, to explore ways to lift the income of the farming community,” Mr Cole said..

He said through Government, the council was invited as a voice in key industry bodies; and was the chair of the agricultural component of the Green Growth Forum.
