Vodafone Fiji 7s rep Apisai Naqaliva departs tomorrow for five months in Sri Lanka.
The Botenaulu, Wainimala, Naitasiri man confirmed he has been given the green light by Vodafone Fiji 7s coach  Ben Ryan who understood his needs and assured him he can rejoin the 7s team but has to earn  it like the rest.
“I want to thank Ben Ryan for selecting me to be part of team to the  Gold Coast Sevens last week and for his guidance,” Naqaliva said.
“I’ve talked to Ryan regarding my trip to Sri Lanka and he was really open with me and I thank him for understanding me.”
As a sole breadwinner in the family, the 24-year-old strongly holds Fiji close to his heart and will fight for his spot when he returns.
“I’ll fight to win my spot back and prove to Ben that I’m capable to don the national jumper once again,” he added.
The bulky forward said winning the Gold Coast Sevens would be an unforgettable experience for him.
“It was really good we worked as a team, stayed as a team and we won as a team,
“I thank FRU and the sponsors Vodafone and the players for this great experience being part of the winning side,” Naqaliva said.
Naqaliva and teammate Jerry Tuwai were hosted to a lunch by the Marist Rugby Club yesterday. Marist RC coach/former national rep Joseph Narruhn said they were delighted with their duo’s achievement in their debut.
“Apisai was with us for one year and Jerry since 2012,”he said.
“We provided everything for them starting from bus fare to training and going back home, we moulded them to where they are today.”,
Narruhn urges the duo to maintain consistency and uphold the values of the club.
“We want to tell them to play hard, enjoy, look after themselves and continue their consistent performance.”
