Australian couple, Ross and Wendy Smythe, have been coming to Fiji more than any other place on earth for more than three decades.

On Monday they made their 100th visit and were labeled as a true loyal returnee of the Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa on the Coral Coast.

“It has been 30 year. We have been coming back to the Fijian Resort ever since,” Mr Smythe said, popularly known as ‘Ratu’ by the friendly staff.

“The Resort has been something very special to us, the friendliness of the staff and atmosphere itself on the island.”

The couple first saw the glimpse of the Resort from the road side while driving past in 1983 during their vacation from another establishment on the Coral coast.C

“We thought why not stay here in our next visit the following year,” Mr Smythe recalled.

“Since then we have witnessed two coups from 1987 and even many cyclones but we always love to come back. At times we say to ourselves this is just four hours away from our home in Sydney.”

This was their fourth visit to the resort during this year alone.

“We got two weeks leave from work so pack the bags and let’s go to Fijian resort to relax with Fiji time,” said Ms Smythe who turned 59 yesterday.

The couple has also visited other resorts in the Mamanuca’s, Nananu – I – ra, North West of Viti Levu and Savusavu in Vanua Levu.

Resort general manager, Craig Powell said: “Wendy and Ross Smythe and their family have been coming to our resort for so long they have become family to many of us who have met them on their numerous trips to Fiji.

“Over the years they have become part and parcel of the story of Shangri-La’s Fijian Resort and Spa.

“Not only because of their visits to the resort but also because of the lifelong family connections they have made here and the charitable donations they have made to our community here on the Coral Coast,” he added.
