Asian superpower leader Chinese President Xi Jingping arrives at Nadi International Airport at 6.10pm today for a three-day visit.

It comes less than 48 hours after the other Asian superpower leader, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, left after his most successful visit here.

President Xi flies in accompanied by First Lady Peng Liyuan and a strong Chinese delegation.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will lead his Cabinet ministers to receive the Chinese delegation. Mr Xi will be accorded a guard of honour by the Republic of Fiji Military Forces.

The Chinese delegation then leave for the Sheraton Fiji Resort on Denarau Island. There Mr Xi will be accorded a traditional ceremony of welcome by the Nakorotubu clan.

President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau then hosts a state dinner.

Mr Xi’s visit is yet another sign of the recognition Fiji is getting in the international community. Plus the lead role it continues to play in facilitating such high level talks for other Pacific island nations.

Papua New Guinea Prime Minister Peter O’Neill – who gave Mr Modi’s visit a miss – is expected to fly in today to join other regional leaders already gathered to meet President Xi.
