The Fiji National Sports Commission handed-over a $20,000 cheque to Fiji Hockey Federation yesterday.
It is for the hosting of the Oceania Pacific Cup and World Hockey League round one at the National Hockey Centre this weekend.

Commission chairman Peter Mazey said they were pleased to be supporting the sport.

“The commission is pleased to allocate this fund for the hosting of the tournament,” he said.

“Hockey is a very fast growing sport and getting different Pacific countries to play in the Oceania Pacific Cup in Fiji is huge.”

FHF secretary Laijipa Naulivou acknowledged FNSC for its timely sponsorship.

“We thank FNSC for assisting us host the tournament and this would be a boost to us and our players. As you know most of these teams participating in the tournament would be using this as a build-up to the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea so this also a good chance for our teams to set the platform for next year,” she said.

The tournament starts on Saturday at the National Hockey Centre, Laucala Bay, Suva.
