North staff of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport won the ministry’s Excellence Service awards last Friday night.

The Divisional Engineer Works – Northern and the Department of Building and Government Architect staff were recognised for their work.

The Divisional Engineer – North, George Tavo, said the achievement showed the dedication and hard work that had been carried out by the department’s staff throughout the year.

“The credit goes to the staff. Their hard work paid off and I thank them for their consistency,” Mr Tavo said.

“At the end of the day it is getting the basics right that matters and this also shows that we have done the right things in terms of how we operate.”

He said the department would improve from what they had achieved this year to win again next year.

“This came as a surprise and we are not to be complacent with today’s achievement so we will discuss with the management and staff on the way forward from here,” he said.

The Department of Building and Government Architect’s principal architect, Mosese Druavesi, said it was team work that enabled them to win the award.

“We have been expecting to win this award because of the amount and effort of work that we have put in this year,” Mr Druavesi said.

The Minister,  Pio Tikoduadua, said the 2015 budget allocation was a call for a collective effort by the ministry to deliver.

“The $1.1billion allocated for the ministry is a call for a more concerted effort in 2015 to achieve provisions in our respective annual corporate plans,” Mr Tikoduadua said.

“I call upon our ministry’s ‘can do’ attitude to echo my statement in Parliament that we will deliver.”

He said his ministry would work smarter next year to ensure they delivered their services that would be exceptional to the finances that had been allocated to its various departments and statutory authorities.
