Minister for Youth and Sports Laisenia Tuitubou has confirmed that amateur boxers can travel overseas to prepare for the 2015 Pacific Games.

The Government is working tirelessly hard for a special Bill that would allow our amateur boxers to participate in any International Boxing Association (AIBA) sanctioned tournaments carrying Fiji’s flag.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday Tuitubou said they have started discussions on the amendment of the Boxing Decree of 2008 in the past three weeks and have also met Solicitor-General Sharvada Sharma and also Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) president Reg Sanday and vice president Manasa Baravilala yesterday.

“We started these boxing discussions three weeks ago and we understand this is important for our amateur boxers as they prepare for the 2015 Pacific games. I have met with Solicitor-General on the amendment of the Boxing Decree and has agreed for our amateur boxers and the clubs to continue with their preparation,” Tuitubou said.

Tuitubou would be meeting with BCF next week with the main agenda being the Ministers briefing from BCF on the involvement of Fiji boxer in overseas bout not sanctioned by BCF.
