New Zealand born Fazeem Khan is confident of making the final 20-member squad of the Vodafone Fiji Under-17 football team.

The 15-year-old lad believes the Kamal Swamy coached- side can create wonders in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) U17 playoffs in American Samoa.

“I have seen if we push through with the coach’s advice then we can be the team to beat,” he said.

The Wellington Phoenix academy striker said he feels honoured to represent his country.

“This is the first time to be called in to represent Fiji and it is amazing and if I work hard I will get there definitely,” he added.

“It is great competition, to be playing with the hope of winning against the Oceania teams.”

The Scots College student has been in love with the sport since he was three years of age. He is 179 cm tall and weighs about 76 kg.

Khan is looking forward to play against his fellow teammates at the Wellington Phoenix academy Sam Wilson (left back) and James McGarry (left wing) who are part of the New Zealand team.

“The team and I are looking forward to this match as New Zealand is the defending champion and we are ready to be smashing them up.”

His father, Hasmukh Khan played striker as well and represented Suva and Rewa in the 1980s.

Fiji take on NZ in their opening Group A match on January 13 in Samoa. The team departs on January 9.

The tournament will be co-hosted in American Samoa and Samoa from January 13 – 27 with the eventual winner qualifying directly as Oceania’s representative in the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile later in the year.
