Search Continues For Missing Lau Pair

A mother-of-five from Cicia in the Lau Group still has high hopes that her son, who is missing at sea, will be home soon.

Sixty-one year old Lavenia Rasoqosoqo’s eldest son, Maika Rasoqosoqo went missing at sea after leaving Cicia Island on Christmas day.

Mrs Rasoqosoqo said her son had brought her from Nayau to Cicia to spend Christmas before he went missing. “We spent exactly a week together before he left on Christmas morning,” Mrs Rasoqososo said.

“He had told me he would not go, but he later changed his mind and said he wanted to spend Christmas with his wife and children back in Nayau so I let him go.”

Mr Rasoqosoqo, a mechanic, was travelling with his wife’s uncle, Laisa Babiau, when he went missing. He has three children and his wife is also seven months pregnant with his fourth child.

Meanwhile, Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said an aerial search was conducted by the Fiji Navy on Monday, however, there were no signs of them.

“Two naval officers were on board a Northern Air plane from 1400hrs – 1700hrs covering Lomaiviti, Vanu Levu and Kadavu waters. The RFNS Lautoka had also set out to search the Lomaiviti and Vanua Levu areas,” Ms Naisoro said.
