Alzima Elisha Bano-Mow of Nadi is overwhelmed to be among the 60 inspirational young people selected to receive the Queen’s Young Leaders Award.

The 28-year-old said she was overjoyed because this would be her first time to receive an international award and coming from the Queen Elizabeth II, it was simply amazing.

“I have been recognised for this award through my small events management business called the MisMatched Company with a youth programme called ‘Advocacy through Creative Techniques’,” Mrs Bano-Mow said.

Mrs Bano-Mow said she received a call just two days after her birthday (December 22) around midnight and she was so excited that she could not sleep the whole night.

“I strongly feel that we can empower and disseminate information to young people by using creative arts.

“At the moment we are looking for a venue so that children can make their way there after school and learn about theatre.

“My husband Bradley Mow and my sister Loriza Bano have been very supportive and I’m very thankful for their love and also their critiques which have helped me reach where I’m today.”

Mrs Bano-Mow also works as a part-time tutor teaching psychology at the University of the South Pacific since 2012.

About the award:

The award will be presented in London by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in June to celebrate the achievements of young people who are taking the lead to transform the lives of others and make a lasting difference in their communities.

Upon applying, each year from 2014 to 2018, 60 inspirational young people will be selected to receive the Queen’s Young Leaders Award.
