The rugby league season kicks off today with Vodafone 9s tournament at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.

Fiji National Rugby League operations manager Joeli Savou said the tournament would help selectors pick up a Pacific Games squad.

“Teams have been quietly preparing after it was postponed last month,”Savou said.

“We need to select a squad for the Pacific Games in July and most of the teams have been looking forward to this tournament

Sixteen teams will take part and the next tournament will be held in Nadi on February 7.

Workshop plans way forward

Nineteen representatives attended a workshop organised by the Fiji National Rugby League at the Novotel Hotel Suva Lami Bay on Thursday.

Fiji National Rugby League development officer Jone Wesele said the workshop allowed officials to discuss the way forward for the sport.

“I’m so glad the Fiji National Rugby League came up with this idea,”Wesele said.

“We need to work on what needs to be done. We need to change what needs to be changed.”
