It’s just me I guess. But when it comes to sensitive, fragile devices, I try to keep at least 10 metres away just in case five metres is too risky a distance.

So you can imagine when I first held this Samsung Galaxy Core Prime. But then I continued doing so for the next three weeks. Pretty long aye!

But thankfully all my childhood stunts remained where they should have. It didn’t break or fall or scratch, take a bathe in my chicken soup or whatever imaginative stuff you can think of.

What I’m saying is IT IS TOUGH! Yep! That was my first impression of the phone.  As much as it looked like the other Samsung Galaxy versions, at least first glance before Vodafone handed it over, I thought, well that’s just exactly what I need.

A device that looks tough to the look as well as to the touch. It has a non-scratch back cover by the way!

Over the next three weeks, because being a journalist requires one to be on the go, literally as soon as you’re out of bed, I took this 4.5 inch PLS capacitive touch screen and 480×800 pixel device along with me.

Not only because I wanted to show it off to colleagues, which did turn on the inquisitive button of some (Vodafone you have market there!), but because I needed it as a recording backup.

The device was at least a metre-and-half away from the interviewee, it was chunky-looking compared to the sleek digital professional recorders my counterparts had.

I was worried there’d be a lot of background noise and static. And what if my other phone recording got failed too? I would have miserably taken my last pay check home. Okay maybe that’s too dramatic.

But boy did this device do wonders! Thanks to Vodafone Fiji, the Samsung Galaxy Core Prime captured all the recording I needed, even the ones I weren’t supposed to hear. But shhhh! That’s safely off the record.

With its 8 GB internal Memory and even expandable up to 64 GB, this device of wonders will do just the trick for you.

If you’re the executive assistant recording a board room meeting around table full of characters, drop me an email and thank me later.
