Pedro Virgil is a name known by many people the world over. He is a star in his own rights. The international renowned photographer is also a Reality television show personality.

This week, Fiji Sun is lucky to have this international celebrity as its Shopper. Born in Fiji, Pedro is proud of his Fijian connections.

The Fiji Sun caught up with this Babasiga lad in Labasa as he spends his last leg of holiday at his family home in Bulileka.

The 41 year old came into the country after completing the Season One of the Carribean’s Next Top Model late last year where he was one of the judges.

Pedro, who also has maternal links to Namuka-i-Lau says shopping list is must for him when he goes out shopping.

Even when he is here at home, he makes sure to go with a list when out shopping.

“I take a shopping list because I get to meet people along the way and sometimes when I reach the supermarket I always forget some items” Pedro said.

“Being an international photographer and single I take shopping list so that it could save time and avoid impulsive buying”

“I don’t really visit numerous shops to compare prices I just walk into any supermarket as long I have a shopping list” he said.

He said that being single does not mean you don’t take a shopping list when you go shopping, it is all about saving time and money.

Based between Europe and working in the Caribbean Virgil always have a soft spot for his home town.

Spending most of his education life in Labasa before migrating to Australia at the age of 16, Virgil loves visiting home and he loves his local food.

Back at home to visit family and renovate their family home at Bulileka, Pedro loves going to the local super market to his do shopping.

Pedro leaves on February 11 for Australia where he will spend two months before flying to Europe.

He revealed that he plans to set up an international standard production company in Fiji which could attract global clients.

 

On A Lighter Note

Pedro was born on August 28, 1973. He is best known in the Americas for his participation as a judge and photographer on the reality show Caribbean’s Next Top Model, a Guest Photographer on Australia’s Next Top Model and Project Runway Australia seasons 1 & 2, and his photography is featured in many magazines covers and editorials including: Inside Sport, Men’s Health, GQ, Sports Illustrated, GT, DNA Magazine, FHM, Details. He has worked with a long list of corporate agencies and prestigious clientele both nationally and internationally.

Pedro’s work can be recognised on major billboards from high profile brands such as Rolex, Sony, Adidas, Sony Ericsson, Van Heusen, underwear campaigns such as Calvin Klein, and hit television shows: Australia’s Next Top Model, Project Runway seasons I & II, Football Superstar, Caribbean’s Next Top Model and Australian Idol. He was also commissioned for the global advertising campaigns for Ed Hardy by Christian Audigier in Australia, USA, Europe and Asia.

He is renowned for depicting nude and semi-nude photos of Australian sportsmen, most notably in a series of calendars including: League of Their Own, Naked Rugby League, Naked For A Cause and the very widely successful global campaign Gods of Football, the proceeds of which help support breast cancer sufferers, through Pedro’s ongoing alignment with The McGrath Foundation.

He has published a hardcover book Gods of Sport. It is an artistic photo book dedicated to Australian rugby and Australian rules football players, and includes hundreds of images taken from behind-the-scenes of the shooting of the recent Naked for a Cause: Australian Footballers 2009 calendar. He followed that with the Gods of Football.

He has also shot the famous bodybuilder, Aziz Shavershian (Zyzz), the photos which went viral all over the social media.

In May 2010, he signed a contract joining A.E. Entertainment Public Relations as one of their photographers.

Pedro is also a very active member and international ambassador of the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal) and works closely with the organisation worldwide to protect and fight for animal .
