Expecting mothers visiting the Ba Mission Hospital can look forward to having the best care with great comfort.

Last Friday, the Minister for Health and Medical Services, Jone Usamate, opened the hospital’s new extension of the women’s ward.

Mr Usamate said: “Before the expectant mothers were sitting together with the special out-patients, but now they come here where they are separate from the sick people.”

The new air-conditioned facility will also provide comfort for those expecting mothers who come in for their anti-natal clinics.

Mr Usamate added: “They also have a room there for the HIV/AIDS counseling for the mothers. So I am very grateful to the people who had organised this, to the staff here, to the Board of Visitors and to everybody who donated.

“This place is only for the mothers and it is something which is very important and I hope the mothers of Ba who use this hospital also appreciate it.”

The chairman of the Board of Visitors, Jay Dayal, said: “We can’t just let our citizens under go any distress here so this is why the Board of Visitors has decided that we will continue the projects.

“This is our first project, as our second project is to extend the waiting area for the general out-patient ward as this hospital caters for more than 200 patients a day.

According to Mr Dayal, the ministry will deploy 10 more doctors to the hospital. “If that is done then most of our problems are resolved,” Mr Dayal said.

The FD$18,000 ward extension was done as the new hospital is set to be ready after 3-4 years from now.

Mr Usamate also said the ground works for the new Ba Hospital had been completed and believed work was to start next month.

Other projects the ministry will be working on this year in terms of infrastructure in the Western Division are in Navosa and Yasawa.
