Tikoitoga, Aziz Head For UAE
The Commander of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF), Brigadier-General Mosese Tikoitoga, left the country yesterday for the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
And Deputy Commander Brigadier-General Mohammed Aziz accompanied him.
Land Force Commander Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho said the two had been invited by the UAE armed forces to attend the International Defence Exhibition at Abu Dhabi.
A release from UAE said the latest defence technologies and innovations would be on display at the 12th edition of the International Defence Exhibition and Conferences (IDEX 2015),
It adds that IDEX will take place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adenc) from February 22 to 26.
Chairman of the organising committee, Major-General Obaid Al-Ketbi, said: “This year, we ha-ve launched a new successful co-nference formula for the IDEX conference.
“Running alongside the exhibition, the conference is a unique platform to establish and strengthen relationships with government departments, businesses and armed forces throughout the region.”
Colonel Qiliho said the Commander and his deputy would be able to witness the UAE armed forces’ latest defence technologies at the exhibition.
He said they would also meet with top offcias of the UAE armed forces to further enhance Fiji’s relaltions.
Last year Fiji and the UAE strengthened their bilateral relations through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on military co-operation.
The MoU was signed by the Commander and Major-General Staff Pilot, Mohammad Rashid Obaid Al Ali of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces.
Colonel Qiliho said the duo would also be there when the Gulf Defence Ministers Conference convened.
He said arrangements had also been made for them to visit the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Colonel Qiliho said just last week 146 Fijian troops from the Golan Heights had been redeployed to the UNIFIL.
He said Commander and his team were expected back in Fiji on March 2.
