The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources is looking to embark on some capital projects in the Northern Division this year.

This was confirmed by the Minister, Mereseini Vuniwaqa, who is currently touring the North. She is visiting the industrial areas and squatter settlements in Labasa.

Capital projects to be introduced are the formalisation of squatter settlements and the new industrial subdivisions in Labasa, which is in-line with Government’s ‘Look North Policy’.

The Minister highlighted a particular area of interest – the industrial subdivision.

“From the Ministry of Lands perspective, we are looking at ways of facilitating that particular policy as fast as we can,” Mrs Vuniwaqa said.

“There is a huge need for industrial subdivisions or industrial leases up here in the North, particularly an area here in Navakamasisuasua subdivision that we are looking at.

“Now we are going to go back to the drawing board to see what options there are so we can roll these projects ahead as quickly as possible.”
