Popular iTaukei band Kula kei Uluivuya has outshined other top bands in the Pacific including Hawaii to put Fiji in the Pacific Music Chart.

The band’s hit song Seni Mokosoi was ranked at number three behind Hawaii’s The Green and Papua New Guinea’ s Noss for the month of February in the Top 20 Pacific countdown.

Standing on the chart is determined by the votes cast online.

Lead singer Viliame Cokanauto said he was so humbled about the result especially when they are rated amongst Tongan group Common Kings.

Common Kings was placed at number five.

Mr Cokanauto said that he had gone solo about three months ago.

This was after the release of his latest album which is now on the market. The album, includes 10 songs which were released late last year.

The album has hit songs such as Isa na Watiqu, Southern Seas and Yasayasa Vakara which are already hitting our airwaves.

The songs are being sold on i-tunes and CDs are available for $30 at any South Pacific Recordings (SPR) outlets.

Mr Cokanauto also started his live gigs at Wrecktangle Nightclub last night. This was the first time for Mr Cokanauto to perform in any nightclub.

“We will see, if it turns out perfectly then I will probably continue with my performance at the nightclub,” he said on Friday.

He also plans to have a promotional tour around Viti Levu in the near future. The date, however, is yet to be finalised.

Meanwhile, another song to look out for in his new album is titled ‘I am KKU’. The song is about his mother. The band KKU is named after a mountain at his mother’s village in Macuata, Vanualevu.

Mr Cokanauto said “It’s a song dedicated to my mother who has been a great parent and a source of inspiration. All the hardships that she faced growing up till now as she watches her sons grow up. She is now happy with what God has blessed her with.”

His advice to all young people facing similar situation is to remember that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel.
