The Reforms Awareness Workshop spearheaded by Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy in Labasa last week has got some school principals going.

Waiqele Secondary School principal Ashok Ram, on Wednesday, invited more than 40 parents to the school to relay to them the major reforms being implemented by Government.

“This was to create awareness to parents regarding reforms in education” Mr Ram said.

He said that the changes had to be brought to the parents’ attention because they play a major role in the education of their children

“No scaling of marks has been a major change therefore a lot of hard effort is needed from students to pass with quality marks,” he said.

Mr Ram also highlighted to parents the Government initiative on free text books, bus fares and the re-introduction of Year 10 exams.

“With the new free education system, parents should make use of it and send all their children to school.”

He also stressed to parents the importance of spending more time with their children in order to monitor their school work.
