106 frontline agents from Australia and New Zealand are in the country for a four day expo at Sofitel Resort & Spa orgnised by Tourism Fiji.

Sally Cooper, Events Director said, “To bring the front line sales people into Fiji so they could experience first-hand Fijian hospitality.

“In the course of a day-and-a-half they have 50 business-to-business appointments with tourism representatives of Fiji.

“In addition to that, we are utilising the services of all the inbound operators, transport operators and various resorts.

“When they get back into the country of origin, they will be speaking to clients from experience and memory, rather than from what they’ve read.

This initiative began last September.

“We found that although you can go and do road shows and do presentations, getting firsthand experience, they can talk with a lot more confidence.

“They got to have that experience, they have got to be here and I think that this has potential to grow.

“We started with Australia and New Zealand because they are our key source market.

“2014 was our greatest year in terms of numbers for the record year with 692,000 people, the greatest growth of out of New Zealand.

“So having successful elections has been amazing for Fiji. There’s also a strengthening growth of infrastructure and increased inventory. The growth in the currency, in the New Zealand dollar has increased and we expect that New Zealand is going to be our largest growth market for 2015.

There have been tours arranged for them, organised by the tourism industry stakeholders.

Carla Walton, Regional Director Australia said” “Fiji is more than just one area. It is more than the beaches and the blue water.”

She told the 160 frontline agents: “You are the influences in your markets, and you have the power to change people’s minds.”

“We don’t own beaches or blue waters, it is all over the world, but what any other destination doesn’t have is Fijians.”

A rugby game was held in the afternoon in Nadi town at the Sangam school ground between team Australia and New Zealand.
