The Vodafone Fiji U20 soccer team needs more international matches say head coach Frank Farina.

The side arrived into the country yesterday from their Asia tour and the players have taken their break and will resume camp on March 16.

“The tour was fantastic playing with five international teams in 10 days,” said Farina.

“The preparation is the same compared to last 18 months but we need to play more international matches for experience with good sides. That is what we exactly want for the World Cup preparations.

The side beat Malaysia U22 1-0, drew with Malaysia U19 2-2.  The side was beaten 1-0 and 3-0 by Myanmar U20 and held Myanmar U22 to a goal-less draw.

He said striker Iosefo Verevou played well with the team.

“This was his first time to be on tour after coming off suspension but he has settled well in with the boys. I guess the more they play the better they will all become,” he added.

There is some hope for the team to play more matches in USA and neighbours Australia and New Zealand.

“Hope we have another tour to USA which to be confirmed and possibly to NZ and Australia prior to the World Cup.

Farina said the players will join their respective districts for the Galaxy Premier League matches starting from this week.

“We need some break as six weeks in a camp is too much for a national team. Some will play this weekend and they need to be careful as it is important they play and play for their districts but we just don’t want them to get burnt out because of too much football,” he said.

Meanwhile, the team is injury free but goalkeeper Misiwane Narube suffered a minor knock to his fingers but should recover soon.
