The resorts are award-winning jewels in the Fijian tourism crown. So are Tulia Seru and Marian Khan, the women who manage them. With the International Women’s Day this Sunday, we thought it would be ideal to feature a few women in our society who have been the silent contributors.

These two women we came across are based in the Mamanucas and are in fact running these award-winning resorts which are part of the Ahura Resorts and the larger Rosie Group.

Ms Khan, the resort manager of Malolo Island Resort, has been working for the resort for over a decade now.

She has moved around in various managerial roles in the resort before she was appointed the resort manager, a role she has held for over five years now.

The Malolo Island Resort recently won the 2014 AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards in the Accommodation Quality category. This demonstrated the commitment and hard work of Ms Khan as the resort manager, and of course her staff members as well.

Likuliku’s Tulia

The other leading woman is Ms Seru, the resort manager of the luxury Likuliku Lagoon Resort, the first resort in Fiji with over-water bures.

Ms Seru has been with the resort since it opened in 2007 and was part of the pre-opening team.

She was executive housekeeper from 2007 to 2012 and took over a resort manager in 2012, a role she holds till date.

Ms Seru said: “I have been with the industry all my working life and still happy to be very much a part of the industry which has contributed a lot to our economy.

“Secondly, I am just so proud to be managing a Fijian-owned resort that has made its mark worldwide all because of the wonderful people I work with.”

Ms Seru earlier worked at Vomo Island Resort, Turtle Island Resort and Captain Cook Cruises.

Likuliku Lagoon Resort recently won the 2014 AON Fiji Excellence in Tourism Award in the Accommodation Luxury category.
