Government’s favourable investment policies enabled the Gokal Group of Companies to undertake the development of Fiji’s newest hotel brand, Pullman Nadi Bay Resort & Spa.

“The Government with its current measures and policies has created a conducive investment climate which has enabled us to embark on this project with confidence,” director Vikesh Gokal said on Thursday.

The Gokal Group is investing $70 million into the resort that will see 300 jobs being created once it opens.

The official resort naming was made among tourism industry leaders at the resort site currently undergoing construction at Wailoaloa Beach in Nadi.

“Investment and infrastructure with better roads and a new and improved Nadi airport will no doubt have more confidence to the sector,” Mr Gokal said.

This, he said, would augur well for them and in time for the resort’s opening come 2016.

For the past 15 years, Mr Gokal said they worked behind the scene to acquire the land up to securing the partnership internationally-recognised Accor Hotels.

And now that this was realised, the company’s aim of contributing economically will be fulfilled.

“I am proud to say that this is a predominately local affair,” Mr Gokal said.

“We as the developers are proud locals. Our primary financiers are Fiji Development Bank and HFC Bank, our local banks.

“Our principle architects, LHM Architects, contractor is Western Builders and the rest of our development team are predominantly local.

“This I believe is very important, not only does it build capacity among the local businesses but also keeps the money in Fiji.”

Senior Vice President of Operations for the Accor Hotel Group in New Zealand & Fiji Garth Simmons said the partnership marked a new era for the group.

Gokals, he added, was now part of Accor’s global network.

“And we know they will benefit from the strength of our international branding, distribution, digital and loyalty programs.”
