Tourism stakeholders will be provided with real-time data as part of an overhaul of information collection and dissemination processes. Responding to a question in Parliament yesterday, Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Faiyaz Koya, said the overhaul would affect several key tools for collection of data in Fiji. These were;

– The International Visitor Survey Report (IVS)

– Visitor arrival forecasting model

Government MP Balmidar Singh had initially asked about the measures in place to provide tourism industry stakeholders with relevant, timely and updated data.

Mr Koya said the IVS was essential to provide qualitative and quantitative analysis.

Currently, the latest tourism statistics were three months old, dating back to December last year.  Mr Koya said upgrading the information technology capacity of the Ministry of Tourism was essential to providing real-time data for all stakeholders.

In response to a question from Opposition MP Salote Radrodro, he said small and medium-sized business owners could always access relevant information from the Bureau of Statistics or the Ministry of Tourism.
