The sale of land in Vanua Levu to the iKiribati people and Government was in order as the land was freehold land, said Minister for Lands Mereseini Vuniwaqa.
Responding to questions from the Opposition in Parliament yesterday about whether native landowner claimants had the first right to the land, she said the land itself was freehold. The land was previously owned by the Anglican Church.
She said any concerns by the Opposition about the influx of Kiribati nationals would be dealt with when a request for mass migration was made by the Kiribati government.
She described the concerns by the Opposition as ‘hypothetical.’
