The Vodafone Fijian 7s team aim to defend the Tokyo 7s title in Japan on Saturday.

Coach Ben Ryan said they would worry about financial matters later

“The team has yet to receive outstanding bonuses from previous tournaments,” Ryan said.

“And then of course a share from the prizemoney from the Hong Kong 7s over the weekend. We’ve yet to receive anything in writing from Fiji Rugby Union.

“But the boys are not talking about money or bonuses, we’re concentrating on defending our title this weekend.”

Ryan said the team aims to finish the 2014/2015 season well.

“We will really set this up brilliantly for the rest of the season so it’s all eyes on the prize in Tokyo,” Ryan said.

“We actually are playing a really good brand of rugby at the moment.

“That’s only going to be better if we defend as well as dominate possession and keep the ball and use it well. We will also need to work hard on our offloading and keeping our depth.” Ryan agreed that the scrappy play in the ruck and breakdown areas against England in the Cup quarterfinal last weekend not be repeated.

Fiji plays England at 8.30pm this Saturday.

He believes the breakdowns against England this Saturday should be efficient, clean and quick.

“Last weekend they put a lot of pressure on us, lots of foots and arms and legs all over the place,”he said.

“So our breakdowns against England should be clean ones, quick ones and efficient ones. England’s always quick on ruck ball and we obviously don’t want that.”

Fiji kicks off the tournament against Wales at 1pm, Hong Kong at 4.18pm and England at 8.30pm.
