The Suva Warriors cricket team was on cloud nine after they defeated Moce by four wickets to win the 2015 Life Insurance Corporation of India Easter Cricket tournament yesterday.

For the Warriors, it was a win they had been planning since losing to Moce last year at Albert Park in Suva.

“We are so happy winning back the trophy, that we lost to Moce last year,”Warriors team manager Akuila Nawai said.

“We used to choose the winning club from the Suva Cricket competition to represent us in the Easter tournament.

“But this year we decided we would use all the best players from the clubs to represent us.”

Nawai acknowledged Moce for being a formidable opponent and thanked the Warriors supporters.

“It’s always hard playing Moce because they’re a really good team and they always have the support of the crowd.”

“I thank all the players for their hard work and especially to our captain Joe Rika.

“He hasn’t played for the past few tournaments but I asked him to come on board and he’s really done well to lead us to victory.

“We thank the supporters and especially the people of Lau. Cricket is our sport and we’re very happy and thankful to regain the trophy.”

Nawai confirmed the team would have a share of the $5000 prize-money. Runner-up Moce received $2500 while semifinalists Suva Warriors and Western Suburbs received $1000 each.

Warriors had won the toss and batted first.

Skipper Rika scoring a top 42 runs before bowled out by Moce skipper Maika Kamikamica.

Moce batted next with Kamikamica scoring the highest of 38 runs.
