An Australian family took part in the Outrigger Fiji on the Beach ‘walk for kids walk-a-thon’ and donated $2500 to the Sigatoka Special School.

The charity event was organised to raise money for the special school.

Michael Holland and his family saw fit to contribute to the school since it caters for children with disabilities who were in need of assistance.

“We saw the Outrigger’s walk-a-thon through social media so as a family we all thought we could get together,” Mr Holland said.

“We got some other sponsors from Australia as well to support the great cause and help the special school.

“The group and Ben donated the money which was raised by 25 people all putting in a little bit of money each.”

Mr Holland’s son, Ben, who attends a special school back home and understands the requirements of the children with special needs.

Ben, who is nine years old, was born with ‘Down Syndrome.

“We feel that the special school here in Sigatoka doesn’t have as much resources as what Ben’s school does.

“It is a privilege to help out and Ben is really excited and he loves Fiji a lot,” Mr Holland said.

Mr Holland and his family have been regular visitors at the Outrigger resort for the past six years.

“We came in two weeks ago and we are here for at least a month and we are enjoying it, especially my son Ben,” he said.

“We had to get up 4.30 this morning and we do everything at Ben’s time as Ben has special needs so we are very used to this.”

At least a hundred people turned up for the event.

The 5.7 kilometre walk started from the resort and ended at the special school where lots of giveaway prizes were awaiting the participants.
