Preparations are on track for swimming in preparation for the Pacific Games in July in Papua New Guinea.

Yesterday swimmers had a chance to better their times in the last Long Course Grand Prix 3 at the Damodar Aquatic Centre. Fiji Swimming meet director Talei Elaisa said the Long Course Grand Prix 3 was to help swimmers better their times.

“For the senior swimmers, most of them want to better their times for the Pacific Games,”Elaisa said.

“And for the rest of the swimmers, it is to basically qualify for the Long Course Age Nationals in June.

“Some have bettered their time for the Pacific Games, like 400m freestyle swimmer Douglas Miller. But the names of those going to the Pacific Games have not been finalised yet but the swimmers themselves who are aiming to go are the ones that are swimming to better their times.”

With the set criteria for swimmers and coaches to follow, Elaisa said that will help guide the swimmers on how to be selected into the team.

“The swimmers have been really preparing well, and preparations are on track for the Pacific Games.”

The Pacific Games is on July 4-18.
