What happened: The Pearls netball team continued their winning run in the second round of the Digicel Punjas International Netball yesterday.

This was after the Mere Neiliko- team defeated Singapore  63-31 at the Vodafone Arena last night.

The Fijians got off to a strong start in the opening two quarters, utilising all centre passes. Vaiti Waqatabu led well from the centre circle ably supported by Alesi Waqa in mid court.  This enabled the two shooters Taraima Mitchell and Afa Rusivakula to be on target with Fiji leading 35-15 at halftime.

Neiliko played well in defence and supported by goalkeeper Episake Kahatoka.

The visitors provided a good challenge, but couldn’t keep up with the Fijians pace and intensity.

Big Play: Fijian defenders proved themselves too strong for the Singapore attacking line causing turnovers and creating opportunities.

Star Turn: Despite the height of veteran Fijian defenders Singapore utilised their opportunities well.

Comments: Fiji coach Kate Carpenter said: “It was a clean game and more flow with different players on court. We were really looking forward to play the Asian style of netball.”

Singapore head coach Ruth Aitken said: “We will play PNG One on Monday which will be a big step for us. We just have to make use of the opportunity and our defenders were good.

Fiji plays PNG Two tomorrow at 7pm while Singapore plays PNG One at 5pm.
