Local celebrity artist Inoke Kalounisiga better known by his fans as ‘Knox’, will be vying with Saimone Vuatalevu for the Fiji Performing Rights Association (FPRA) Awards in two different categories.

The FPRA Music Awards Night will take place on May 16 at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

Knox’s songs ‘Coming Home’ and ‘Fading’ have landed him as one of the top three nominees with more chances of winning the award of the Most Outstanding Song.

He said this was a great opportunity and he was very humbled and shocked at the same time, but thanked FPRA for recognising his work.

“My song Faded was written when I was going through a period of questions in my life concerning my faith and beliefs and Coming Home was written when my first son was born, which made a great change in my life,” Knox said.

He said both songs were written by him and produced by the KNOX team for those who appreciated his music.

“Muisic awards such as the FPRA Music Awards are important because it marks and rewards growth and hard work. It challenges those that dream to enter the music industry and create healthy competition that’ll result in a rapid positive growth,” he said.

FPRA director Seru Serevi said the award nominees were selected on merit judging from the songs that go on air from January to December 2014.

“The future looks good but there are some issues we have to tackle that is the copyright issue where our musicians are working hard but don’t get much for their work with people making illegal business out of it,” he said.

Mr Serevi is pleading with Police to do their job and look into the situation since musicians rely on this income for their daily living.
