Haifa Work will represent Fiji in bodybuilding at the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea in July.

Team Fiji chef de mission Cathy Wong confirmed the independent appeal committee decision yesterday.

“Haifa Work appealed and got it over Elizabeth Maki,” Wong said.

“Bodybuilding initially endorsed Elizabeth, but Haifa won her case based solely on the selection criteria.

“Haifa will be part of the bodybuilding team to PNG and Elizabeth has been dropped and that is why it’s important for sporting federations to follow selection criteria.”

Wong has also confirmed the Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee board has turned down Shop N Save Athletics Fiji request to include Xavier College high jumper Shauntel Lockington in the squad based on facts.

“When we did our background research on the case, we found that the official result recorded her jump as 1.58m,” Wong said.

“Previously it was reported that she recorded 1.66m.

“The jump of 1.58m puts her no way of winning gold medal at the Pacific Games.

“She might have won gold during the Coca-Cola Games, but not for the Pacific Games,” Wong added.

Meanwhile, Athletics Fiji chief development officer Joseph Rodan Junior said this was unfortunate because they had proof which confirmed Lockington jumped 1.66m in the sub junior girl’s high jump during the 2015 Coca-Cola Games.

Wong confirmed Lockington has been included in the Youth Commonwealth Games squad for Samoa in September.
