Fijian ruggers in France have formed an association to look after their welfare.

Fijians in France Association held their meeting in Bordeaux last Saturday.

It was attended by current and former Fiji reps and their families. Former All Blacks and Nadi native, Joe Rokocoko was also present.

With the aim of helping young Fijian rugby players, the association  will address issues that were previously disregarded.

“The reason for setting up the association is to help out, especially the young ones, understand the purpose of being here in France,” Association secretary Julian Vulakoro said.

“We address issues in a way that they understand, the sacrifices that people have made for them to be where they are today.

“And most importantly the hardships that parents go through in putting them through school – making sure they have a good meal, uniforms and so forth.

“All these things are connected and the purpose of this association is to remind them about how sacrifices were made for them to be here today. This is because life out here is so fast people tend to forget where they come from and also get themselves into trouble because of forgetting their purpose.

“It’s only fair they give back to people who have made a lot of sacrifices for them back home than spending it on a lifestyle that they never grew up in.”
