Fiji Touch Association (FTA) president Georgina Lasaqa expressed her disappointment at the three touch rugby players who were arrested for robbery in Hong Kong earlier this week.

The three were members of the Browning Bombers touch rugby team. They were invited to be part of the ANZ International Touch Championships in Kowloon, Hong Kong on May 9.

Lasaqa said the Browning Bombers touch rugby club attended the tournament which was not sanctioned by the FTA.

“They (Browning Bombers) went on their own club and not under FTA so we were not aware of their trip,” she said.

“But what happened is shameful and a disgrace to touch rugby and we hope their actions will not paint a bad picture for touch rugby because they are just one team out of many.

“All we can do now is let their managers sort this out.”

According to media reports, on May 10 the three players had allegedly snatched a local woman’s handbag which contained cash of around $HK5000 ($1309) and a tablet.

Police raided the hotel where the team was staying after finding the handbag outside. The players were charged and appeared on Tuesday.

Families of the players refused to comment on the matter yesterday.
