Fiji Car Club received a timely boost of $5000 from Lincoln Refrigeration Limited in Suva yesterday.

This is for their next quarter-mile drag race on May 31.

FCC’s president, Raizal Haniff, acknowledged the company for their support and reigning drag race champion Ravindra Nath for his role in securing the sponsorship.

“First of all I’d like to thank Lincoln Refrigeration for sponsoring this year and for supporting us for the past five to six years,” Haniff said.

Lincoln Refrigeration managing director Praveen Singh was delighted to be involved with FCC and the sport after a number of years.

“As you know, Lincoln Refrigeration always supports all sports in Fiji and we’re grateful that Fiji Car Club asked for this sponsorship.

“We’re grateful to Nath that we can be involved with this sport again. We’re all working together to make sure this race will be an event not to be missed on May 31.”

Nath was also on hand at the presentation and hoped to have his champion vehicle ready in time for the race.

“I’m looking forward to it. I’m hoping because my car is actually getting fixed and hopefully it’ll be fixed in time for the race.

“It’s really hard to get a sponsor and especially $5000 is pretty hard. I really thank Praveen and Lincoln Refrigeration for their generosity to sponsor this race.”

Looking ahead, Haniff was hopeful for a good turnout to the upcoming event after a positive reception at the last event.

“We’re very happy with the turnout we’ve been having. The last time we had 37 cars and we only expected 30 cars.

“So we’re hoping this race we’ll get at least 30 to 35 cars but basically 25 is the number of regulars that are always turning up for the races and that extra five to ten cars would be great but if they’re ready then they’ll come. But we’re hoping for at least 30 cars to turn up for this race.”

The quarter mile drag race will be held on May 31 at the Taunovo Airstrip in Deuba.
