A Marketing Support Agreement between Fiji Airways and the Wellington International Airport was officially signed yesterday.

This agreement is to support the soon-to-be direct Wellington – Fiji flights from and to the Nadi International Airport beginning June 25.

Senior representatives of Fiji Airways and Wellington Airport were present to witness the signing at the Fiji Airways Boardroom at Naisoso in Nadi.

Fiji Airways chief strategy officer Aubrey Swift the Chief said: “We had announced it in December last year that we were going to start a new route from Nadi to Wellington.

“This new route we are able to do it because of the strong performance we have seen in terms of Fiji Airways.

“Delivering innovative products to our customers and making record profits that is both globally and in the New Zealand market.”

Fiji Airways is said to be the first airline to introduce a year-round Wellington service which will use the airline’s fleet of new generation Boeing 737s.

Flights on Thursdays and Sundays launch the series.

New Zealand is a vital and important part of the Fiji Airways network for the marketing of Fiji and Fijian tourism, Mr Swift said.

“This investment represents and demonstrates our commitment both to Fiji tourism and to the New Zealand market.”

This new service will in total mean 17 services a week year round to and from New Zealand.

Wellington International Airport chief executive Steve Sanderson, said: “This is not only seasonal but all year round which is great for Fiji Airways and the Wellington Airport.

“There are some good ties with Fiji and Wellington as Fiji being one of the wonderful holiday destinations.”

The two partners of this new venture look forward to this being a successful enterprise with their work coming to reality now.
