A Centre of Excellence was launched for the first time at Nasinu yesterday.

Fiji Football Association’s chief executive officer Bob Kumar, who was the chief guest at Rishikul Sanatan College, said the facility was to provide, nurture and enhance the skills and talents of elite players.

“Our vision is to deliver the highest standard of excellence in development to everyone in this country,” Kumar said.

“In order to develop quality footballers and to raise the standard of the sport in Fiji we have already established training facilities in the North and Western divisions.

“The launching of the ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Nasinu will provide elite Sothern Zone footballers a training environment.

“Fiji FA will conduct trials to identify and select players who demonstrate a higher level of commitment and learning and development performance.

“These elite players will have the opportunity to train with qualified and experienced technical coaching staff at least once a week in special programme.

“All the players who will be recruited in this programme will also have the opportunity for the selection for the Under-17 team in 2017.”

Meanwhile, Rishikul Sanatan College principal Gyan Chand was thankful yesterday.

“We will make use of this facility and I applaud Fiji FA for the assistance.

The “Centre of Excellence’ will also be opened in Navua, Rewa, Lami and Suva later in the year.
