RC Manubhai Suva and Jack’s Nadi set the pace in round one for the 2015 Skipper Cup competition yesterday. This was after they topped the table with bonus point wins.

The capital city side scored a comfortable 54-13 victory on their home turf against Tavua while the Jetsetters thrashed Tailevu 32-12 at Ratu Cakobau Park. The opening round also involved some major upsets with defending champions BLK Nadroga going down to archrival Naitasiri at the ANZ Stadium last Friday night.

The Highlanders dominated from the start to deny the Stallions their first victory with a final score of 16-13. Yesterday’s match saw the second upset where Vatukoula beat Northland 25-8 in Garvey Park, Tavua.

Meanwhile, Namosi outshined Lautoka with solid defence to win 17-10 and Ovalau beat Macuata 28-6 to kick off their 2015 campaign to a good start.

The 2015 Skipper Cup will be a tough one this season with the smaller unions looking to upset the big guns.
