Ovalau defeated Macuata 28-6 to win their first game in the opening round of the 2015 Skipper Cup at Nasau Park in Levuka, Ovalau, yesterday.

Coach Etuate Waqa said while they did well to win, there were still some weaknesses they would definitely need to work on.

“This was our first game and it was good to get a win. But we definitely committed some errors and there are still a lot of things we have to improve on,” he said.

“We’re glad that we could play our opening game at our home ground which really gave the boys a huge boost. It definitely motivated them to give their best for their home crowd.

“It was also a good opportunity for a lot of the players to be exposed to provincial level rugby because most of them have never played at this level of rugby before. So it was a great learning experience for them.

“There’s a lot we have learnt from this game and I’m confident after three or four games we’ll have a much firmer grip on things and play a much more improved game. But all in all a good first round,” coach Waqa said.
