Commissioner of Police Bernardus Groenewald said he would not tolerate any element of dishonesty in the Fiji Police Force.

He revealed this while speaking during the talanoa session at the Ba Town Council hall on Wednesday.

Mr Groenewald attended talanoa sessions in the West to hear grievances from members of the public.

He emphasised on the importance of quality service by Police to the general public.

“In future if we have a police officer who does not want to do his or her work will be replaced by someone who wants to work. It is the obligation of the Police to serve and protect the public,” he said.

He warns his officers that there is no room for dishonesty in the Force.

“If a policeman commits the offence of dishonesty like theft, corruption or bribery, I will not tolerate that,” he said.

Mr Groenewald said an internal disciplinary committee would probe officers breaking the law.

“There were some police officers terminated keeping in mind they have to go through a disciplinary procedure,” he said.

“They were found guilty in the disciplinary process and it’s my prerogative to decide what to do. One of the options in the Constitution is that I can terminate anyone in regards to deceitful conduct,” he said.
