The Fiji National women’s football team depart for Australia tomorrow.
And goalkeeper Mereoni Yabakidrau is looking forward to the challenge.
The team will play five matches as part of their build-up for the Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea next month.
Yabakidrau, a former Telecom Fijiana rugby player, is confident the team can win gold in Port Moresby.
“I was with the team when we won bronze in 2007 and the team is really different now,” Yabakidrau said.
“Being one of the experienced and older girls in the squad it has been a challenge for me leading by example for my teammates.
“But the good thing about our team is that we help each other out. I reminded them we have one heart, mind and soul and to not give up till we achieve what we want.”
Yabakidrau, 30, also wants to make her mum, Kelera Kaigalau, proud.
“ I just want to make my mum proud because she is always pushing me to use my talent,” she said.
