The seven alleged assault cases files involving police officers in the Northern Division have been submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions office.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro confirmed this saying they had they received several reports of alleged assaults and the files had been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for advice.

A group of police officers allegedly assaulted villagers during drug raids they carried out early this year in the province of Cakaudrove.

Meanwhile, Police are still gathering information on the alleged suicide of an 18-year old student.

The student allegedly committed suicide at Nabala Secondary School in Macuata last week on Thursday.

The cause of the alleged act is yet to be determined.

Ms Naisoro said: “Once the findings are gathered than we will open an inquest.

“The case will be subject to an inquest findings of which it will be forwarded to a resident magistrate once compiled.”

Ms Naisoro said parents and guardians should have an open mind when discussing issues with their children.

The Year 12 student was originally from Kia Island in the province of Macuata and her parents have been informed of the tragic incident.
