Despite the cold weather conditions, more than 100 people braved the unpleasant cold morning weather to take part in the Westpac Walk for Life initiative from Albert Park to Nasese yesterday.

The bank, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, hosted their second health walk for this year as part of efforts to control non- communicable diseases.

Westpac Banking Corporation head of marketing Nirmala Nambiar said the objective of the walk was to raise awareness about NCDs in the country.

“It is important for people to keep healthy and one way of doing this is through exercise; healthy people are productive people,”Ms Nambiar said.

Meanwhile first-time participant and Qauia Rugby Club coach Orisi Matakasa and also took part in the walk with members of his rugby team.

“We have been trying our best to look for sponsors to support our team as most of the boys in the team are university students; we’re hopeful that by coming down here today, we would be able to gain support from some organisations,” Mr Matakasa said.
