The Fijian Pearls netball team received a boost ahead of the 2015 Pacific Games in Papua New Guinea next month and the World Cup in Sydney.

It was a proud moment for Sports World and Netball Fiji yesterday after the announcement of two new long-term sponsorship arrangements with international sporting brands Gilbert and Asics.

Sports World general manager Vinod Kumar acknowledged Netball Fiji for having confidence in the two international products.

“Sports World, with its partners Gilbert and Asics, thank Netball Fiji in having confidence in our products. We wish the Fijian team all the best in the coming tournaments and surely they will make Fiji proud,” Kumar said.

The Pearls will wear Asics footwear at the Pacific Games, the test against the Silver Ferns and the Netball World Cup in Sydney in August. The footwear deal is worth $9500. Netball Fiji president Wainikiti Bogidrau said the sponsorship would help the Pearls compete well.

“We are indebted to Gilbert and Asics for this sponsorship.

“Both are quality netball brands and it is our pleasure to be associated with them.

“Having the right training and competition balls can only boost our preparation and also participation,” Bogidrau said.

Gilbert, being the official suppliers and partners of International Netball Federation, will sponsor Netball Fiji with training and match balls valued at $6000 annually for the next five years.

Netball Fiji will adopt Gilbert balls as their official training and match balls.
