A three- storey iTaukei Cultural Centre will be built at Nasese, near Government House, in Suva.

The iTaukei Affairs Board has approved the project.

Permanent Secretary Savenaca Kaunisela said board official Isoa Kaloumaira would head the project.

He said the project had the full support of the President, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

In the centre, there will be live shows of iTaukei weaving and other iTaukei handicrafts.

He said more on the cultural centre will be revealed when construction begins.

Ground testing for the site had already been completed.

Meanwhile, he said the ministry’s consultation was continuing.

Last Friday he said they had the consultation at Sawakasa village in Tailevu.

The consultation was good as participants asked questions on land and other activities in the village.

He said a query was raised by the landowners of Ratu Kadavuevu School on compensation. “We are working on this at the moment and we will go back to the landowners as we have promised,” he said.

He said there was a dispute about the RKS lease some years back but the case raised at Sawakasa was different.
