Lodge Con Complaints, Police Urge Public

The Fiji Police are urging people to lodge complaints if they have been conned or blackmailed by people on social media.

This is after a Facebook page called Yadratiko Viti took it upon itself to put pictures and stories about people being conned.

The pages posts pictures of people allegedly swindling money from others.

According to the administrators of the page, they are creating awareness for people to protect them from becoming victims of con artists.

Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said people needed to report such cases to Police so that justice was done.

She said even if the Police were aware of such facebook pages and incidents, the onus was on people to come out and make the effort to lodge official complaints so an investigation could be carried out.

“There are so many posts on Facebook and the Fiji Police cannot be investigating every single one because of the time and resources that will need to be directed towards it,” Ms Naisoro said.

“This is why we have always stressed the need for people to lodge an official complaint so that we know it is a genuine case that needs to be investigated.

“Things posted on social media aren’t always true, hence the need for an official complaint.”

Meanwhile, members of the public have been reminded to be aware of bogus pages and people online and not to share their personal information with people they don’t know.
