The first National Trainers Conference will be held next week from July 9 to 10 at the Tanoa International Hotel Nadi.

It is aimed for the industry trainers and training providers by the Department of Executive Management of National Training and Productivity Centre of the Fiji National University.

NTPC deputy director Executive Management and Hospitality Services, Satendra Nair, said this trainers conference will now be an annual event.

“This will promote a lot of networking amongst the trainers and get industries to share best practices,” he said.

The conference is intended for CEOs, Training/HR Managers, general managers, registered training officers and training instructors.

National Trainers Conference Objectives:

  • Outline recent advances globally in understanding of Human Resource Development, Education and Industry based Training
  • Discuss and appreciate and adapt the best practices in Training and Development with local industries and global world
  • Explore the possibility and developmental pathways to participate in the international conferences, seminars and study missions in developed countries
  • Push and share success stories from industries in relation to Competency Based training approach and On the Job Training

What prompted NTPC/FNU to host this?

The National Training and Productivity Centre being the training regulator in the county is mandated and tasked to get new knowledge and promote productivity in the country through training workshops, training conferences and seminars. Thus this National Trainers Conference. This was also prompted from the industry Discussion Forums where the National Training and Productivity Centre analyses the industries training needs. This will now become an annual event in the National Training and Productivity Centre’s calendar.


Who all and how many people are expected to attend this forum?

This Trainers Conference has invited General Managers/ Training managers in HR and Training, Registered Training Officers and Training Instructors from the industry and training Institutes. A total of 60 participants are booked to attend the conference. There are 10 observers.


What are the key focus areas of the conference?

The theme of the Conference is Innovate – Learn – Connect Corporate Social Responsibility in the Training sector – using Industry engagement to empower Individuals, HR Audit and Measurement, On the Job Training, The Management support in Learning and Development in the industry,
KPI and Management reporting and Enhancing Productivity through Quality Training and Business Excellence.


Who are the facilitators?

  • Prabha Nair – principal Consultant and Senior Trainer at KDI Asia and an adjunct Lecturer at Nanyang Technological University, UniSIM and the Singapore Institute of Management – Singapore
  • Roger La Salle – Internationally acclaimed Innovation Specialist, Technologist, Engineer, successful entrepreneur and the developer of the “ La Salle Matrix Thinking”
  • Pawan Sharma- General Manager Training/ Head of Human Resources, Carpenters Fiji Limited\\
  • Uraia Rasake- General Manager Human Resources, Fiji Development Bank.

Please comment on the need/demand for trainers in the country.

There is immense demand for Trainers and Training providers in the country in all specialised areas. There is a need for robust trainers with versatility in the industry to meet the needed demand. Trainers need to be more exposed and understand to meet the local, regional and global needs.
