The Northern Agriculture show in Labasa has pulled people from all around Vanua Levu.

Dakuniba village ladies Amelia Aqela, Maria Madrana and Ruta Rauludugua travelled all the way from Buca Bay in Cakaudrove to sell mandarin.

Ms Aqela said they left their village at 3am on Tuesday and reached Labasa town at 7am to sell 5000 mandarin.

“This is our first time for us to attend such a show and we are planning to make use of the four-day event,” Ms Aqela said.

She said transport cost was $280 and they had already managed to recover this cost after sales on the first day.

“We are glad that we have achieved our first goal which is recovering our transport expenses back home.”

Ms Aqela said after the first day they managed to have a profit of more than $300.

“For us women in the village, we mostly depend on the sea as there source of income,” Ms Aqela said.

They aim to finish of the 5000 mandarins by the end of the show and purchase household goods before leaving for Cakaudrove.

Mandarins were sold for $1 to $2 a bundle.
