Team Fiji karate team continues to impress at the Taurama BSP Arena.

Adi Kidia Drodrolagi won gold medal in the female individual kumite -61kg category yesterday.

Despite the challenges the team had to go through during their preparation, the athletes remain focused for the job.

“All the training we have been doing in the past months has paid off,”she said.

“This is what we came to do and I’m happy with the result.”

PNG’s Catherine Wilson meanwhile, settled for silver. In the male individual kumite, 60kg Sandip Pala won silver while PNG Nigel Bana won gold and Vanuatu Stephen Manaruru won bronze medal.

Gold to Veremalua

Adding on to the medal tally yesterday Joji Veremalua won gold in the individual male kumite  -75kg.

Veremalua defeated Tahiti Honoiti Lien who settled for silver and Vanuatu Tumu Lango won bronze.

“I want to thank God for giving me this victory and my family for their support not forgetting my coach,” Veremalua said.

Team Fiji won three gold, three silver and 1 bronze in day one of the competition on Monday. Three gold came from the female team kata, female individual kumite -68kg category where Naomi Bakani won her second gold medal and the male individual kumite -67kg gold to Tevita Tawanigaunatawamudu.Bakani won a silver medal in the female individual kata and Anthony Yam also won silver in the male individual kata event. Team male Kata also won silver medal.

James Lenoa won bronze in the male individual kumite -84kg.
