New Centre For Nadi Elderly

New Centre For Nadi Elderly

Senior citizens in Nadi will soon have their own recreation centre if managers of a charitable trust have their way.

The Senior Citizens Charitable Trust will be launched on July 29 by the Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Rosy Akbar, and aims to improve services for the elderly in Nadi.

President Palpana Nand said the launch at the Nadi Civic Centre would raise the bar for age-care services.

“Since the successful establishment in May last year the Trust has had the immense support of the Nadi business and overall community,” he said.

The proposed recreation centre would also host medical examinations by local and foreign doctors, said Mr Nand.

“We have experienced a few obstacles but with the kind support from the business community and individuals we received more strength and the members confidence doubled,” Mr Nand said.

“We are also in talks to try and set up income-generation activities after this recreation centre is set.”

The trust also plans to expand its membership base and form partnerships with donors.

Mr Nand urged registered members to attend the talanoa session with the Minister on the opening day.

Registration for the special day will be done on that day at 9 am. People will need to bring a passport size photo and a registration fee of $8.
